White Slave Traffic.

ITS INSIDIOUS METHODS.

THE USE OF DRUGS. I. K Y Electric Tel eg ra ph —Cop y right] Times—Sydney Sun Special Cables. New York, December 8. Lurid revelations of the “white slavers’ ” methods are expected in New A ork, following the arrest of Armand Megaro, a chemist’s assistant, a young South American, who is charged with administering a drug with a Hypodermic syringe to Airs Marjorie draff, the wile of a New York civil engineer, to whom she had been manvM for only a fortnight. The woman was sitting in a box at a New Jersey cinematograph theatre. On Alegaro taking a seat alongside her she suddenly fell a sharp prick iu one of her arms.

She Immediately Became Numb. She managed to retain her senses, and she staggered to the dressing-toon, and informed the attendants. Then she collapsed, hut she recovered, and led the police to the box, where Alegaro was still sitting. Accusd was arrested, strongly protesting Ids innocence. He was released on bail pi 1000 dollars. The police believe that this arrest will clear up the mystery which has surrounded numerous disappearances of young girls. In a similar case A Girl was Drinking Ice-Cream in a “soda fountain,” when two men seated themselves alongside her. They injected a drug into the girl, who retained her senses sufficiently to call the ; attendants. The men claimed relationship with the girl, but the suspicions of the attendants were aroused, and they called the police, the men then making off. The poison is possibly ourari, an alkaloid poison obtained from the woorara tree of South America, which produces vertigo and drowsiness. The cases are principally occurring iu darkened cinematograph theatres, the girls being kdinapped and removed to South America. COMBATTING THE EVIL. I (Received 8 a.m.) Berne, December 8. The AVomen’s Societies at Neuchatel have, created a corps of voluntary policewomen, their duties being to aid and look after girls and women in every way. They will wear a uniform, and their chief object will he to fight the social evil.
