The authorities of San Queiitin Gaol, California, where the average population is 2000 convicts, have adandoned striped prison uniforms; substituting therefor plain blue serge suits. The convicts were assembled in the courtyard of the gaol to watch the burning of the old suits, with the pri son band pla'ying until ail the clothing was consumed; except siSi suits, which were kept in'reserve'for rncorrigibles sentenced to 1 solitary l eolihnemont. The prisoners are how divided into three classes, viz., irtebri'igibles,■ tliose w|io are only behaving well compulsor ily, and an honor class, the last consisting of the men who are aware of their wrong-doing and are anxious for reformation;
