| By Electric Telegraph—Copyrichtl [United Press Association.] (Received 9.10 a.m.) Londofl, November 19. A curious situation lias arisen in the motor case.
Mr Shorthand, in response to a request by plaintiff's counsel to produce copies of any invoices supplied by his firm to defendants, .submitted three which had been prepared on condition that defendants absolved him from responsibility if the Customs raised trouble. The documents handed in did not refer to Australia. Two dealt with cars for New Zealand, and the third with South Africa. Counsel for the Commonwealth explained that he had never asked for these invoices. The Commonwealth's solicitors du September asked Mr Shortland's assistance in the matter of gi\dnss proof; but he did not respond until November, when he stated that Mr Talbot, the Company's Solicitor, would see assistance was given, but no proof was receivea trom Mr Shortland.
Acting on the Magistrate's suggestion, the case was adjourned till Tuesday to enable Mr Shortland to produce further documents.
