New York, November 14
Thirty people are reported to have been drowned in the wreck of the steamer Henry Smith, in the Lake Superior storm. One body has been washed ashore. The death roll in the Great Lakes storm exceeds 140.
STEAMER ON FIRE.
Halifax (N.S.), November 13
The steamer Muirfieldhead arrived on fire, having steamed at top speed from mftl-ocean, where the cargo of cotton in the forward hold burst into flames. Steam was injected with three pipes, but failed to extinguish the fire. The civic apparatus suppressed the outbreak, saving cargo worth £IOO,OOO.
NO EQUALITY FOR JEWS.
St. Petersburg, November 13
The Duma, by 152 votes to 92, rejected a motion that a committee be appointed to draft a Bill to confer equal civil rights on Jews.
