The Rev.* Patton states that information has been received;?,- by the Presbyterian Foreign Mission that unless decisive action is taken in Australia before the , Franco-British conference regarding dual corftrol in the Ne\\y six months hence, the British Government may permit the French to assume absolute control. The news came from absolutely reliable sources, Tlie. French are making it- a point of national honor that the islands should come under their*" protection, and the present amicable relations of the two Governments made those in England very reluctant, to raise points, of dispute. Only by vigorous action on the part of the Commonwealth would they maintain a firm attitude on tlie matter. ‘
