The i Mayoralty campaign has bocome exceptionally bitter through the ex-Governor Sulzer's intervention. Edward McCall represents the Tammany interests. John Mitchell, the fusion nominee, seeks to break Tam-
many's power. Sulzer has published letters and telegrams purporting to show that McCall offered to get "Boss" Murohy to stop the impeachment proceedings, provided Sulzer endorsed McCall's candidaturo t-nd stopped his < -posure of Tainamny. Sul/.er further asserts that he knows, he stands in danger of assassination because of his continued participation in the Mayoralty campaign. Mitchell is unpopular because Hearst supports him. McCall is disliked because Tammany has pledged t-i elect, him. "Boss" Murphy's position is insecure, because Tannnanyirns think he has mismanaged the campaign.
