ANGLO-GERMAN CONVENTION.

The Chronicle's Berlin correspondent says that .an Anglo-German agreement is almost concluded by which Germany secures a free hand in economic matters in Angola, with participation in the construction of the Lobita Bay-to-Katanga railway which will be the quickest route from Europe through the centre of Africa. Germany disclaims all rights under the Mozambique .agreement,,, subject to conditions .that neither Power disturbs the sovereignty of Portugal.
It was stated previously that the Anglo-German Convention merely concerns Mozambique and and does not affect French interests, which are concentrated in North Africa. is in Portuguese East Africa, Angola, or Portuguese Lower 'Guinea, is bounded on the north and east bv'the Congo State and Rhodesia, on the south by German South-west Africa, and in the west by the Atlantic Ocean. It was recently stated > that Germany and Britain were discussing the question of the cession to the former of Zanzibar, but the story was officially denied.
