FIRES.
VETERAN BURNED TO DEATH. [Pee Peess iAssooiation.] Hawera, October 31. A two-roomed whare at Otakelio, in which an old-age pensioner named John Cashin lived alone Was burned to the ground last night. No one saw or heard of the fire until this morn- ' ing, when an examination of the ruins led to the discovery that the old man had been burned to death, his charred remains being found in the debris. Deceased was a Maori War veteran. A fire in Hamilton yesterday destroyed the Borough Council’s tarworks.—P.A.
