MR AND MRS MACKAY.

A farewell social was given by the congregation of St. Andrew’s Church t 6 Mr and Mrs J. Mackay and family last evening in St. Andrew’s hall . Ihe hall was well filled, and a most enjoyable evening was spent, ah excellent programme of musical items being provided. Mrs McNeely helped in the preparation of the programme and acted as accompanist. Among those who contributed to the programme were Misses Mackay, Greenhalgh. and Irwin and Messrs. Douglas, W. Robinson and P. Thomson. .

During the evening the Rev. J. Pattison. made a brief speech, expressing the regret of the congregation at the departure from their midst of Mr and Mrs Mackay and family. Their leaving Stratford, he said, would be a distinct loss to the community and 1 especially to the congregation. They ■had been identified with the church

for a number of years and Jiad ren-

some silver tea-kettle and,-on behalf ii. of'the l Sunday School and choir, pre--1" 'Stented' Miss M, Mackay with' a' beautiful colnb arid brush. fie expressed the hope that the family would prosper in their new home, and assured them that the good wishes of a host of friends would follow them to the Waikato.

Mr Mackay suitably responded. On

behalf of Mrs Mackay and his family he thanked the congregation and friends for the social gathering, for the valuable presents they had received, and especially for the goodwill which had prompted them. He would

always, take an active interest in the prosperity of the Stratford congregation.

Subsequently refreshments were handed round by the- ladies, and the gathering was concluded by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
