MR ISITT’S STRATFORD SPEECH.
[To The Editor Stratford Post.] Sir,— I have read your leader cm "Party Politics,” and have enjoyed it. Thanks for your kindly references to myself. I, of course, understand that those very “party politics”'you deprecate are responsible for >our cheapening allusions to my lack of political knowledge. You know and I know that if my speech had been for your party instead of against it and had been weary in the extreme, you Would have discovered in it evi- ■ deuce of political sagacity and a grasp of public affairs marvellous in one as young and unsophisticated as myself, j As it is, it is your duty to smite, and you have smitten and no harm is done, hut will you take a hint from an old campaigner? Whenever you are making a weak attack never descend to detail. So long as you keep to “old wheezes, platitude after platitude,” etc., you are on safe ground, hut directly you quote an example you are in trouble. Eor instance; “An occasional rather careless statement! “was put forth such as that regard-* “mg the taxation pm- head twenty; “years ago and the taxation per head 1 ' “at this time though as the fact that “tlu l population has about trebled in “that period was quite overlooked by the speaker in making the eompari-l “son. it earned no particular weight.” Now will you explain to your readers' just how the increase of population robs my comparison of its weight? .Mary runs a home with fifty inmates at a cost to the inmates of lbs a head. Mary runs a home equally well with one hundred inmates at 10s a head. Has Mary improved the position or not ? I am. etc., ' I .EON Al{ |) M. IS ITT.
