Rupert Norman Ui'en, a hank employee, was charged at the Police Court this morning with an offence under the Post and Telegraph Act, in that on July 14 he fraudulently stated that ho had posted a packet when in fact he had not done so. Chiefdetective M‘Mahon stilted that a complaint was made to the postal authorities at Whangarei by the accused to the effect that he had posted two letters containing money to a young woman at Whangarei, who had not received them. Inquiries were made by a detective,* and accused made a statement that he had not posted the letters. Counsel for the accused said that he intended to state that the letters were not in fact posted, and that his previous statement was made only to save the postal officials.
