Sydney, October 15. It is suggested that if the Imperial Government does not agree to summon a defence conference, the Commonwealth should endeavor to secure, a meeting of representatives of the Dominions specially interested in the defence of the Pacific. ancouver is mentioned as the likely meeting place. It is pointed out that such a proceeding . might, force the hands of the Imperial authorities with the result that a conference might be held in London after all. “NO FURTHER INFORMATION.” (Received 9.40 a.m.) Melbourne, October 15. Replying to a question in the House, Mr Cook said the Imperial Government had been requested to summon a conference regarding the • future constructional programme of the Navy. He declined to lay the correspondence on the table, and said he had.no further information to give.
