ANOTHER SIEVIER LIBEL.

A TIDY BETTING ACCOUNT.

£By Electric Telegraph —Copyright] IXJnitkd Press Association.] (Received noon.) London, October 14.

In Sievier’s libel action against Percy Bono (solicitor) and T. H. Dey (bookmaker), defendants pleaded justification. Prosecuting counsel stated that Sievier’s paper, the Winning Post, in 1907 refused Dey’s advertisements, but after an interview they were accepted, Dey paying £3OO for the advertisement.

Sievier denied that Dey gave him another £7OO, which was specially fetched from the bank in gold and handed to him in the presence of his cousin, Edward Sievier, who died in January* After this, Sievier and Dey became political associates in the Hoxton election, for which Sievier stood, while Dey was a candidate for the County Council. In cross-examination, Sievier admitted that Dey had several times lent him money and that they had had considerable betting transactions. Sievier, after a quarrel this year, again refused the advertisements, and Dey and Bono then circulated the alleged libel to the Hoxton electors. Sievier incidentally stated that his betting account in eight months was £IOO,OOO.
