HAWERA HOUSE DESTROYED.

[Per Press Association.] Hawera, October 6. j V nine-roomed residence owned and ( occupied by Mr C. C. Woods, farmer,! was completely destroyed by fire on Saturday night. The building was insured for £4OO in the Phoenix. The furniture was not insured.

A WIDOW'S LOSS.

Auckland, October 8

A fire at Grey Lynn on Saturday! night gutted a six-roomed house owned and occupied by a widow, Mrs W. Rogers. The house was insured for £250 it) the State, and the furniture for £lO in the Phoenix. Mrs Rogers and family are left destitute. Through the husband being killed as the result of being thrown from a cart ten years ago, money was collected and the house presented to Mrs Rogers.
