The newspaper Secolo states that the police frustrated a Mussulman's plot to assassinate Lord Kitchener at Venice, whilst en route for Egypt last week. ■ * • -

The reports of the Kitchener plot are most vague and suggest that eighteen Egyptian fanatics organised the conspiracy. Lord Kitchener, instead of entraining at Venice, motored from Mistre. Though it was expected he would stay at Venice for a fortnight, he sailed for Cairo immediately.
,•• A member of Lord Kitchener's suite informed the journal that the story was a fabrication.
