During the inquest on the woman Amuelior, whose body was recovered from the river cut to pieces, Schmidt became enraged and Hung a crucifix which he wore round his neck at the newspaper men. The jury found him guilty of murder. Hundreds of fashionably , dressed people attended the inquest, to which admission was by ticket.
