MR C. LIDDINGTON.

A social evening was held at Parish Hall on Thursday, .evening t bid farewell to Mr (4. man. ager of the. C.B.A-, who is leaving the town t</ join the staff of! tlie' Ha wera Branch, , ; ,In spite of counter attractions in the town, many’ chore people and friends of Mr Liddingto. turned up, and a very pleasant evonin c was spent.

During the evening a presentation consisting of a dressing-case and : pair of sleeve-links, was made to hit by the Vicar (Rev. W. A. Butler), wb spoke of the regret ho and all felt a losing one who bad been such a splen did worker for the Church. The parisi of Hawera would gain by Mr Lidding ton’s advent, and he felt that he wout. always bo a great helper to his church wherever ho went. The’ Vicar rc 1 ferred to the batch of candidates pn sented for Confirmation, at the tim when Mr Liddington was amongs them, and described thorn as the bes he had ever had, and all of them ha splendidly upheld what they then nn dertook. Ho (the Vicar) had no taken part in that presentation, a he wished himself to give Mr Lidding ton a memento of his Vicar which h then did, in the shape of a handsomeb bound edition of Welsham How’s “Eolv Communion.”

Mr Liddington, in reply, thankee all those present for their kindness and regretted that he had to leavi them. His work for tiro Church liar always been a very great pleasure t< him. He regretted having to leav* his many friends behind, and wishes he could take them all with him. During the evening songs were rendered by Miss Black, Rev. W. A. But let, Messrs E. H. Kimberly, A. E Gorton, E. L, Harvie, G. Liddington and a recitaiton by Mr W. L. Law rence. A few dances were also indulged in, and the evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.’ The ladies provided a dainty sup per. (
