KNOCKED DOWN BY A TRAM.

[Per Press Association.] Christchurch, October 2

Mr 0. B» Mi'holls, organiser of the No-Licenso Council, was seriously injured to-night as a result of a collision with a tram car. Ono who witnessed the accident states that Mr Nicholls was coming out of St. Albans Lane on the Papanui road, riding his motorcycle at a fairly high speed, so that ho had to swing on to the tram rails in taking the corner. A Papanui train, coming in from Leicester road, Avas approaching the corner, and a violent collision occurred, the motorist being thrown heavily. Dr. Gerald Russell was near at the time and rendered first aid. to the injured man. who was bleeding from apparently serious injuries to his head. Mr Nicholls was immediately conveyed to the hospital. ,At nine o'clock an operation was performed by Dr. Guthrie, and enquiries made at a late hour to-night showed that the patient had sustained intercraniajl haemorrhage ,\vith a probable fracture of the skull. His condition is extremelv critical.
