Dean Honslcy Henson stated Hint there was real danger in the inexplicable attitude of the Anglican clergy, which might alienate from the Chris-: tian viewpoint the reason and conscience of the people. Ho declared that modern States, avowedly non-re-ligious, might have a clearer vision oi the right application of Christian principles to the marriage problem'than Christian society itself.
The Bishops of Southampton and Lewes stood firmly for the indissolubility of tho marriage tie.
Dean Weldon advocated the same social and political law for the adulterer and adultress.
Dr. Talbot, Bishop of Winchester confessed that tho debate was disappointing and unsatisfactory. THE ATTITUDE OF LABOR. London, October i 2. At the Church Congress, the Bishop Suffragan of Jarrow ,tbe Bight Bev. George Nickson, referring to the-at-titude of Labor towards the Church, said that one would have expected that organisations which it was itnpossibh had not the Christian ideas that penetrated society, would naturally turn t( the source wherefrom the best ideaswere derived. Though not in active hostility, there was an aloofness on the part of Labor. He attributed this to the Church presenting itself tot much as an institution and too little as a life and inspiration. The Baptist Union Conference a: Manchester passed a resolution thai labor unrest demanded the earnest attention of the Christian Church. The workers should not only have the right to earn a decent living, but such 8 living should be a first charge upon every industry.
