MILITARY CANTEENS.

Tho opinions of the various Stat military commandants were asked oi the question of whether it is advis able to re-establish canteens at miii tary camps, and these have been tabl ed in the House. The New South Wales commandaiT says: “The great majority of com manding officers recommend that can teens should for the future be allowed and 1 strongly agree and reconunem that the Act be amended accordingly!’ The Queensland commandant declares that unless the supply of liquo can he confined, to those who are ovc twenty-one, the sections of the Ac' prohibiting a canteen should remain in force.” Melbourne, October 2. The majority of the military officer in Victoria, South Australia,. Westra 11a, and Tasmania favor the re-estab-lishment of canteens under proper control. The Tasmanian commandant, while personally favoring canteens, suggests that the non-canteen system should bo given another year’s trial.
