V Lord Selbpurne, iVi a’ lett'er to Mr ; states that when api pointed in 1895, he offered to resign-his directorship of the P. and O. Company. Lord Salisbury declared thnfc it was not necessary, as he .was not a Cabinet Minister, and shipping contracts were not negotiated by the Colonial Office. When he cumc to tho Admiralty in 1900 he resigned from the P. and 0., and sold his shores. He adds thftt his case wholly differs from Mr Lloyd-George’s.
