MANAWATU SHOW.
An item of interest appearing in our i; columns is the advertisement ox the ;! Manav.-atu and West Const Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Spring .| Show, which takes place at Palmers- . ton North on November sth, 6th, and [ 7ih. The schedule just to hand shows , a lengthy list of cups, trophies and • specials. There are many new ones tip , for competition, and from all appearances every class is well catered for. The Committee oi this Association is noted for its progressiveness; they keep aiiead of the times, and with this forward policy always in .view, it is not to be wondered at that their Spring Show has gained such precedence, it is the gathering ground for purebred stock from all over the North Island, breeders meeting there to compare notes and pick up the valuable hints from the best known breeders in New Zealand. We notice several new classes are inserted tin's year. The draught horse division lias been divided into two sections, viz., heavy draughts and Clydesdales. This will give the breeder who favors lighter animals an opportunity of showing them separate from their heavier brothers. The ring events and competitions are full of interest from start to finish, and several new trophies are inserted therein. A valuable 25-guinea trophy is offered for competition in the Steeplechase Hunters' Competition, to be won twice in succession or three times-at intervals. The E. D. O'Liorke Hunters' Cup, which was won for the first time last year by a northern sport, should be keenly contested again. The Hemp Competition is again inserted with two classes this year, one for best bale hemp, and the other for best bale G.F.A.Q. hemp. Prizes to the value of £ls are offered herein. Then for our blacksmiths there are the usual classes for horseshoeing and shoe-making. Our housewives will find plenty of classes in which to try their skill at cooking and sewing, and for the children there are the school competitions, which always bring forth huge entries. Given fine weather, the Manawatu Spring Show should easily constiute a record this year. The secretary is Mr W. T. Penny, from whom schedules may be obtained ' free on application.
