"Sir Allen Taylor has initiated a debate in the Legislative Council in favour of the realisation of the opening up of new ports'at Port Stephens and Jervois Bay, and that legislation should be passed to encourage producers to send their products to the nearest port. The scheme met with strong opposition.

CIVIL SERVICE SUPERANNUATION.

In the Assembly Mr Carmicbael, in moving the second reading of the Civil Service Superannuation Bill, explained that it was based on rate for age. The State would contribute half and tbe employee half. The scheme would be self-supporting from the start. The principle underlying the Bill would apply to superannuation for the whole of the people of the State, should that ever be brought about. The Government's contribution under the Bill was about £130,000 annually.
