At the Angiican Congress, the Bishop of Tokio said the missionaries were faced with the hardest possible task in Japan, but it was not due to the languages as in other lands or the exclusive nationalism of the people. Japan presented the highest form of civilisation among unchristianised countries. As citizens, tiie Japanesa wore worthy of the highest respect of the whiteman. If the Christian Church could win them, it woidd be a great victory as the whole of the Orient was waiting to see the issue.
