A man named Robert Xfcol, aged 25, a. fireman, who has worked on a number of intercolonial steamers, made a determined attempt to commit suicide this afternoon ou 4f Kilda ~ beach. He first entered the ,water, tyivt came out‘again, and cut., Jfjis throat with a i’Azor. He was found soon afterwards walking up and down the beacjp;. Constables conducted him to a doctor, who attended to his injury, and he. was |subsequently taken to the hospital. Nicol, who is, apparently, a stranger to Dunedin, had evidently been on a heavy drinking bout.
