In a drunken row among the crow of the German steamer Australia, the boatswain, Bleslir, was interfering in the ruck with a bottle when a seaman lamed Richter, who was late entering ..he forcastle, was fatally stabbed. Another seaman, named Schiedat, was stabbed in the throat, but not serinisly. The stabbing is alleged to 'iavo been done by Bleslir, Brisbane, September 9. Suspecting a leakage of news, the Daily Mail, using scare headings, published a supposititious wireless from Dr. Mawson, implying that a lifebuoy if the setamer Waratah had been dis--ovored in the ice. A few copies only containing the message were carefully distributed. .The trap caught. The •iews was re-published by another' paper, and faked as an interview with i prominent shipping expert, expressing the opinion that the Waratah mystery had been at last solved. (Received 9.?0 a.m.) Sydney, September 10. A man left a parcel of jewellery of a value of £785 in a train. Detectives subsequently discovered it, practically intact, hidden in a. teapot under a house. A youth, who was a passenger by the train, has been arrested and remanded. (Received 9.30 a.m.) Sydney, September 10. The hearts of the Scottish sections of the citizen forces have been gladdened by the announcement that the Federal Government intends to* reinstate kilts. A remarkable escape is recorded in the Pelawraain mine. Men were engaged drawing tops when several tons of small coal fell, burying them alive. They suffered broken legs and ribs and abrasions, but no deaths resulted. The coalfell only from a short height, which explains the escape. The White Star liner Ceramic, 674 ft. 9in. in length, has arrived*. She is the largest vessel which has ever entered the harbor. Melbourne, September 10.
