Mr It. McK, Morison was elected la member of the Chamber of Commerce last night, and Mr A. F. Grant was elected to the vacancy on the executive.

Mr Claude, H. Weston, of New Plymouth, who is at present on a visit to the OJd Country, has been elected a Fellow of tho Royal Colonial Institute, states the Herald.

Mr G. Liddington, who is removing to Hawera, handed in his resignation as secretary and treasurer at last night's meeting of the vestry of Holy Trinity Church, and Mr G. W. Mills was appointed to the position.

Mr C. Mackie, who has occupied the position of manager and secretary of the Patea. Farmers' Co-operative Freezing Worlds Company, for the past three years, intends severing his connection with the company and will shortly enter into business on his own account in'the Patea district, states the Press.

Mr A. W. Gillies, of Hawera, received on Sunday the sad news of the death of. his mother at Auckland. Mrs Gillies had been ailing for some two years, and last week contracted bronchitis, which resulted in her death. Mr Gillies left by train yesterday morning for Dunedin, where the funeral will take place.

Mr St. Hill, manager of Dalgety and Co.'s Hawera branch, has accepted a position with Webster, Dobson and Co., Stratford, for which place he will leave in a few days .(states the Star). It is understood that Dalgety and Co. are closing their Hawera office and will work the district from Wanganui.

Mr E. K. Lomas, M.A., has decid ed to resign from the staff of the Wellington Training College to take charge of the secondary educational work of the Presbyterian Chnrch of Victoria in Korea.

Mr X, Cleland, who has acted a« secretary to theTaita School Committeo for the past -15 years, and who retired at the last election, has been presented by the'Taita* residents witli a marble clock, suitably inscribed, as a token of appreciation.

A London cablegram states that the remains of Sir Arthur Douglas, one of the victims of the Aisgill railway accident, will be interred to-day besida his wife's/grave, whither he was journeying, as was ilia wont, everj year, at fcne'jiin'o or the accident.

Mr K. Mcts'aae, 1 ' of the telephone constvucfirin dfepa'rtmeht of Stratford has been transferred to Wellington his place being taken by Mr- Flavell Prior to his departure ho was entertained by a number of his colleagues and presented with a comfortable travelling rug. Mr Mclsaac left for Wellington on Monday.
