BOWLING CLUB.

o ANNUAL MEETING

Iho annual meeting of members of tiie Stratford Bowling Club was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Saturday night. }lr N. J. King (president) occupied the chair. NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL.

Tlio secretary of the New Zealand Association wrote forwarding a ballot paper for the election of five members to represent the Xorth Island on the Council of the Now Zealand Association.

Mr King thought the. Stratford Club should have been informed of the election so that a Taranaki representative might have been nominated. Mr Fookes said that no doubt the secretary of the Taranaki Association had been notified. After a short discussion it was decided that the club vote for Messrs R- Raildon, 11. J. Collins, G. Court, A. E. Manning, and J. J. Heberts. ANNUAL REPORT. Mr King moved the adoption of the annual report, a copy of which has already been published in the “Post.” He said ho had hoped that the report could have shown the club to be in a better position than it was. At the same time, they had had to pay sundry accounts held over from the previous year. If possible they should endeavour to reduce the overdraft or put it on a fixed deposit. The past year had been highly successful, and he believed it had been one of the most enjoyable in the history of the club. This result was largely due to the fine weather experienced and also to the enthusiasm of the members. There were a large number of subscriptions' outstanding, and if they were not paid some measures would have to be taken to ensure payment. The club was in need of. the money, and it was not fair for members to keep the club waiting as long as they did. Personally, he had hoped to do more work during his term as president, but his business had not allowed him to do so. However, he had done the best he could. The club was placed at a disadvantage in the fact that the weather was frequently wet and cold. Sometimes when playing in the past year it was too cold for play, but the enthusiasm of members carried them through. He hoped that by the time the next annual meeting came round the affairs of the club would be in a better position. Air Smart seconded. In future the club would have pairs matches, but he hoped rink matches would be inaugurated. Such matches were preferable to singles or pairs. Of course the championship singles would be retained. Mr McMillan moved that it ho a recommendation to the committee to divide the club into rinks; that monthly rink matches lie played; and that singles matches he discontinued. He thought such action would he in the direction of improving the play of members. Mr King said singles matches took up a lot of time and space. Mr McMillan said his idea was to have the trophies competed for monthly—that each rink play each rink each month. The motion was carried. • OVER DUE SrHSCRIPTTONS.

Mr Cecil' Wright expressed a desire to see drastic action taken to get payment of subscriptions. Mr Fookes said Hie rules already provided that when a subscription was one month overdue the defaulters would he posted in the club’s shed, and two months after that, if the subscription was still unpaid, the defaulters could he struck off the membership roll.
