The liner Emperor, Avi'th 1000 steerago pasesngers, was the scene of a terrific fire near Hoboken docks. The second officer and a seaman was cut off while fighting the flames, and perished. Tho Hoboken fire department poured tons of water into the holds gradually overcoming the flames, but the vessel had a dangerous list before the outbreak subsided. The passengers, who were awakened by the smoke, dashed terror-stricken ashore, but the officrs managed to keep order, and all. escaped. j The steamer's interior was greatly I damaged by the fire, which originated \\r\ the steerage.
