MUSICIANS IN COURT. [Per Press Association.] Wellington, August 25. Mr Justice Sim delivered judgment in the Supreme Court in a ease in which the Royal Wellington Choral Society appealed against- the decision of Magistrate Riddell in regard to a claim for £lO 10s made against the Society by Mr Philip Newbury, as balance due for singing in "Cavalleria Rusticana" on the 4th June, 1912. The Society had agreed to pay him twenty-five guineas, but only paid fifteen, as he did not appear at rehearsals, and the Magistrate gave judgment for the amount claimed. His Honor held that respondent was entitled to twenty-one guineas and allowed the appeal so that the eaee could be remitted to the Magistrate's Court and judgment entered for respondent for six guineas, with costs fixed by the Magistrate.

THE SUNNYSIDE CASE. Christchurch, August 25. A reporter made inquiries from Dr. W. B. Gow, medical superintendent of the Sunnyside Mental B-ospital, today, regarding the holding of the investigation into the alleged maltreatment of the late Mr Tribe. Dr. Gow said that up to the present he had no official information ,as to the date on which an inquiry would be held. All he knew he had gleaned from the newspapers. The inquiry'will be conducted by Mr V. G. Day, stipendiary magistrate at Timaru. Already considerable interest is being taken in the matter.

SUSPECTED ARSON. Hastings, August 25. An inquiry into the fire which destroyed a four-roomed cottage in Treacle Lane, Hastings, on August 11, was concluded to-day. Mr S. E. McCarthy, the coroner, found that the furniture and effects in the house belonged mostly to Patrick McNamara, who had insured them in his own name for a sum much beyond their value, and that Mrs Wells, a sublessee of the premises, had, at the request of McNamra, insured the same furniture and effects in her own name for £3O. The coroner recommended that the actions of McNamara with reference to the dwelling and contents should be further inquired into. i A KETCH SEIZED. Whangarei, August 25.
