What us described by the superintendent of the (jJirls' Industrial School at Parramatta as a "quiet little act of courage on the part of one of our

girl's" has been brought under the notice of Mr Carmichael, Minister of Public Instruction in New South Wales. To again quote the superintendent:—

"Some time ago a sister of tne girl referred to was very badly and extensively burnt. She has for many weeks been in hospital, and, as the skin refused to grow over the parts affected by the accident, the medical officer i

in attendance found it would be necessary to graft skin on her from someom else. The little girl I refer t< promptly volunteered, although sin was made, to clearlv understand the

painful nature of tho operation which she had to undergo. The skin for the purpose had to.be removed without the use of an anaesthetic, ana it required some nerve and cool courage to face it. The operation gave her a severe shock, and she has since required special care, but has now practically recovered from its effects."
