(Received 10.15 a.m.) Sydney, August 26. Professor Baldwin Spencer, in a leet«r« on the Northerni Territory, said it was one.of the most serious problems in Australia to-day; Few realised its extent, which was four times ax large as the United Kingdom, or its sparseness of population, which gave one white inhabitant to 480 square 1 miles. The Northern Territory was the open door of Australia, and its #rrfpSsyn'ess forms a menace. Erroneous ideas prevailed regarding the climate, which was really good; for half the year it was invigorating, though the summer was decidedly warm.
