AN OTAGO DELUGE.
DUNEDIN'S ELECTRIC LIGHT. COUNTRY'S TRAIN TRAFFIC. [Per Press Association.] Dunedin, August 25. Another slip occurred at Waipori, and no power is likely to bo to-day. Three-fourths of the Taieri Plain is under water. The rain, fortunately, ceased early this morning. The Outram train traffic has been entirely suspended. There is five feet of water at the bridge. Waihola Lake is brimming over, but, luckily, the South line is quite clear, and the trains are running as usual. The traffic on the Otago Central is entirely suspended, and is likely to be so for several days. , There are half a dozen slips on this line, one serious break-away having occurred between Hindon and Barewood, a dry stone platform" having collapsed, leaving the'rails hanging. On the Lawrence line traffic is also suspended. The train which left Lawrence this morning found two washouts at Waitahuna and had to turn hack. On the Port Chalmers line there was another slip, but it was cleared, by 10.15. On the North line, a washout occurred at Blueskin. It is expected this-will be repaired during the day. More serious than that is another slip at Puketeraki, and this caused cancelling of the eight'; o'clock Christchurch express, but the main one at 11.15 left. The passengers will be transferred over this slip, which will probably take several days to clear away.
