MODERN STYLES.
FEMiNiNE ALLURERS. "SLITS" AND X-EAY DRESSES. [1 y Electric Telegraph—C jpyrightj Times—Sydney Sun Special Cables. Los Angeles, August 10. Speaking at the Congress of the Seventh Day Adventists yesterday, the Rev. Mr Evans said if he were a judge in court, and a devotee of the modern style of feminine dress laid a complaint against a young man, he would charge the girl with contributing to the delinquency of the man. The speaker added that he would not only let the man go in such circumstances, but he would even reverse the usual charge and proceed against the girl. Such cases came into court because women had adopted the slit skirt. X-ray dresses were worn with the deliberate purpose of alluring men.
"SOMETHING IN THE SEASIDE AIR." (Received 8.0 a.m.) London, August 23. A feature of the French seaside modes is the invisible gown skirt, which is slightly draped from the hips and made of light rose-coloured silk gauze on transparent crepe-de-chine. The corsage is of the same material and scantily lined with pink fleshcoloured satin. , Some women have gone even further, and are wearing flesh-coloured stockings and tights. The dress is lined with material to match the colour of the wearer's skin. The chief feature is the width at the hips and the narrowness below the knees. The waistcoat belts to fit round the hips instead- of the waist often measure thirty-eight inches.
