The girls' hockey team in connection with the Stratford District High School has not had a great many matches this season, but it is hoped that next season some arrangement will be made whereby they will be able to take part in some general competition. The team has played two matches with tiie team from the New Plymouth Girls' High School, but on both occasions have suffered defeat, the girls from the seaside town displaying superior skill in all departments of the game. This, however, is only natural, as they have a weekly competition game. The first match between the teams took place in Stratford a few weeks ago, and the return match was played in New Plymouth on Friday last. Leaving by tho morning train the Stratford girls arrived in New Plymouth at a quarter to eleven; and from then onwards the New Plymouth girls did everything possible to make their stay pleasant. After being shown round the school the visitors wen' entertained* at luncheon by Miss Grant, the Principal, and before the match started at one o'clock they wore taken for a walk in the Recreation Grounds. The game was played on the racecourse and the school was granted a half holiday for the occasion. After the match all returned to the school, where afternoon tea was dispensed and the New Plymouth girls supplied about half an hour's music. The visitors were seen .off at the train by a contingent of [the New Plymouth girls. | On the whole the, New Plymouth [girls rose splendidly to the occasion and the Stratford girls are loud in their praises of the pleasant outing provided for them.
