THE POWER OF A SOVEREIGN. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright 1 [United Press Association.] (Received 9.30 a.m.) Sydney, August 15. Commenting on the increases in wages in New South Wales during the past decade, Mr Holman (Premier) pointed out that the purchasing power of a sovereign has depreciated 4s 3d; hence, a tailor at present receiving £3 was really worth only £2 7s 3d, against £2 10s a decade ago.
