of Mr J. J, Niven, one of the founders of Nivens’ Engineering Works, aged 60. After severing his connection with the foundry he took a proeminent part in fostering the trawling industry. He was a member of the engineering commission, appointed by the Seddon Government, to report on the railways workshops and plant. Ho was a member for the Harbor Board, Borough Council and Licensing Bench.

Brandi man R. Boon, at a meeting of the Fire Brigade on Tuesday evening, was presented with a travelling rug, and Fireman Davies with a fountain pen and leather collar box, on the eve of their leaving the district. Captain Grubb spoke of the excellent work both men had done in the brigade, and said he felt sure that if they ever joined other brigades they would be a credit to them. Fireman Davies was also presented with the Burgess Cup, which he has Avon outright, having Avon same tAvice in succession.
