The Kaiser, at Lubeck, thanked the Hanseatic merchants lor securing German trade its place in the world so that other States envied them. He said he would do his utmost to protect merchants abroad, so that Germany would keep her proper place. He was, the protector„of the merchants, and their enemy was his enemy.
