Napier, Ausjjfst 12. • During a visit to • Ellison, chairman of ?he East Coast Railway League, obtained a definite assurance from the Minister- for Public Works that a sum would be placed on the Estimates Tthis session Silffioient to carry- diiAyfiVk'on the railway bridge and eihhaiikihcnts for twelve months, providings ! the responsible bodies, the Harbor Board and the County Council, guarantee their porting of the cost. The construction of the bridge and embankment would probably take two years. The Minister would not undertake to extend the formation of the line at present, but would undertake that when the embankment was completed there would be sufficient length of line finished to open the first section. After an unprecedented spell of dry weather, rain set in last night and gave promise of continuing. It is badly needed.
