G. Harvey Hawker, an Australian, flying in a Sopwith waterplane, greeted their Majesties when they arrived at Cowes in the royal yacht. The King, watching the evolutions through a telescope, called the Queen and a Princess to join him on the bridge. Hawker twice alighted on the water, rose easily, and performed several air tricks, including a.' final curtesy. Then he led the Royal procession into the Roads.

The Admiralty has since acquired tlio waterplane.
