CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON

Mr R. Fletcher, Chairman of the Wellington Harbor Board, presiding it the conference of delegates of Harjor Boards which opened to-day, said die most important matters to be liscussed were the cost of harbor board ilections, the acquisition by the Govjrnment of harbor board lands with>ut making adequate payment for the same, and the intention of the Government not to make provision for nail steamers to pay for services centered by various boards. A proposal was made that the candidates for doction to Harbor Boards should deposit £lO, and if he does not poll onen’ghth of the votes polled by the successful candidates polling the fewest votes, he shall forfeit the deposit. Phis aroused a good deal of discusion, the amount of deposit eventualy being fixed at £3. A motion that he old system of election of boards, '.e., by nominating by local bodies, where possible, be reverted to, was negatived.
