A tenant in the top floor of a hoi'se at Hackney complained of an bffeaMV* smell. An inspection disclosed the body of a nine-months-old child under a loose hoard, in one of the loivar rooms, and the bodies of two children, twins, aged two and a-half years, behind the cellar wall. A young man with a wooden leg, named Frederick Robertson, had occupied the rooms with his wife and children. Sis weeks ago the wife was removed to an infirmary, owing to a breakdown in health. Robertson departed, telling i neighbor that the children had been placed in the care of friends. It is stated that he was worried over his wife's illness. Robertson has been arrested. THE MEAT INDUSTRY. The Central Market Committee recommended that a tenancy be granted to Armours, the American meatmen. Tiie chairman stated that the company had agreed that 33 per cent, of tli a meat sold by them would be Eng-lish-killed.
OIL FUEL FOR RAILWAYS

The railway companies are seriously considering resorting to oil fuel. Experiment reports are- being prepared at the instance of the directorates of three leading trunk lines. THE CURE OF CANCER. The Times, in a leading article, discussing the report of the Imperial Cancer Research Fund, says there is no justification for the claims of many so-called cures, but only a reasonable expectation. At an explosion at an oil well at Beloeil, Quebec, seven people wer» killed.
New York, July 27
A cigarette fired an oil well at Tullso, Oklnhama, and seven people were blown to fragments. Immense damage was done to property.
