The Government intends to make a permanent disposition oi a portion of
iiie naval forces with the object of guarding the Pacific when the Panama Canal opens.
Mr Daniels, Postmaster-General, declared that the United States now regarded the Pacific Coast as America’s great frontier, and its development and defence as the nation’s pressing duty. The plans provide for the division of the Atlantic fleet into two units, the second and less powerful one cruising continually in the Pacific.
