TAKING ALL PRECAUTIONS

Two out of three suspected cases in country towns have proved not to be smallpox. There is also some doubt regarding the Taree case. A daily supply of 4QOO tubes of lymph is coming from the Federal lymph farm in Melbourne. The New South Wales Government has decided to establish a State lymph farm near Sydney. Ten depots in the city and suburbs are vaccinating gratis.

Inter-State shipping traffic has been much reduced, the companies demanding passengers to produce a certificate of successful vaccination. , A popular vessel sailing to-raorrow has booked twelve passengers, instead of the usual 300. '

A deputation representing medicine, commerce and shipping waited on the Hon. W. A. Holman, urging the introduction of compulsory vaccination. O Melbourne, July 10.

Train passengers arriving at Albury from Sydney will be requested to produce vaccination certificates. If unable, they will be refused admission to Victoria.

There were twenty fresh cases of smallpox between last night and tonight. The total number in quarantine is now 180, of whom 65 are hospital patients, 85 convalescents and 34 contacts. Over 40 convalescents and contacts have been released. There were 12,663 vaccinations to-day in the metropolis, constituting a record.

Dr. Cumpston, Federal director at the quarantine station, says that although it has been found necessary to declare the infected portion of New Zealand a quarantine area, action had already been taken to provide for the thorough inspection of vessels arriving from New Zealand

WOOL SALES POSTPONED

Brisbane, July 10

The wool sales, which were to have been held on July 19, have been pastponed, owing to the Sydney outbreak. About 120 Sydney buyers intended to come here.
