THE ÜBIQUITOUS HATPIN
[Per Press Association.] Invercargill, July 9.
A number of young women who had offended against the unprotected hatpin by-law, in tramcars, were prosecuted to-day. A fine of five shillings was imposed in most cases, while others were convicted and discharged. The magistrate intimated that future offenders would be more heavily fined.
THE RIP A ISLAND BOYS
Christchurch, July 9
The Christchurch Presbytery to-day received a deputation from the Peace Society, re the lads undergoing detention at Ripa Island for breaches of the Defence Act, and a committee was set up to ascertain the facts.
COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. Wanganui, July 9
At the sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, James Henry Bailey was committed for trial on two charges of indecently assaulting two girls aged thirteen years and eight years respectively.
