THE POLICE ASSOCIATION.
CHARGE AGAINST THE MINISTER [Per Press Association.] Wellington, June 30. A statement published to-day concerning the transfer of Constable Baker to Gisborne, and the reported assurance by the Minister of Justice to the Auckland police that "on my honor, as Minister of Justice, whatever you say will not be held against von," was brought under the Hon. Mr Herdman's notice to-day. He remarked that he had nothing to say at present except that the constable's statement that there had been any breach of faith was untrue. The whole matter would, no doubt, be dealt with at the proper time, and in the proper manner in the House.
Dunedin, June 30. In regard to the formation of a New Zealand Police Association, the Dunedin policemen appear to have very little knowledge of the movement. They state that all the information they get is supplied from the Press telegrams from the North, and that there is no branch of the Association here.
