N.Z. L. and M. Report. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received tno iodowing cablegram from their London nous© under date, 25th inst; — Tallow.— ‘.V© quote present spot values for the following descriptions: Good mutton,. 36s 9d per cwt. j good beef, 35s 3d per cwt.; mixed, 33s 6d per cwt. The mutton market is dull. Wheat.—We have sold an Australian cargo at 37s 6d, q.i.f. There is very little demand owing to favorable crop reports. General market prospects.—Market likely to decline. On Friday/ the '2oth inst., we held our usual fortnightly sal© which was postponed from Tuesday on account of the visit of H.M.S. New Zealand to New Plymouth. There was a small yarding of 50 sheep and 140 cattle, everything excepting three head being disposed of at the hammer or afterwards. The tone of thb market is very nuich firmer, and w© quote prices as follows :—Weaner steers mixed colors 21s for poor conditioned cattle to 35s for well-grown weaners, weaner heifers showing color realised from 42s
6d to 61s, for a line of 46 just off turnips and all well in to the ’Jersey, weaner bulls 3Ss to 50s, 20-month i. . empty heifers 63s to 67s 6d, store cows 49s 795, 6cV for good framed cows, forward, cows 85s to 97s 6d, aged e;yes 7s' 6d to 9s, 4-tooth and few f.m.‘ ewes in lamb 13s. On Wednesday, 'the 24th inst., we held our' usual monthly sale in our Te Wera yards' when there was a * r •i • h 1 'i» »* yarding of 90 cattle and 840 sheep, most of the stock being disposed of during the afternoon. We quote prices as follows’:—Store cows 57s 6d, 87s, and 925, 20-fnonth steers 52s 6d to 655, aged ewes 6s 6d to Bs, 2-tooth
wethers 14s Gd, lamlls 9s Id to 9s 9d, rams 6s 2d. During the week we have placed a fair amount of stock at slightly better prices than previously quoted. Lambs 9s 6d to 12s 3d for a lino sent through to an Awakino client, 4 and 6tooth ewes 15s 3d, mixed weaners 25s to 32s\6d, weaner, heifers 35s to 40s, 20-month steers 63s to 745, 2-tooth 'to 16s 6d. We .also sold a, line of nice ffetsey^yeaner, .heifers just off .turnips for a.jHawera client at 675.
