HEAVY LOSSES ON BOTH SIDES

Twelve thousand Bulgarians crossed the river Zilotovo. The Servian artillery were repulsed. The combined casualties were live hundred.
The Bulgarians, including'five hundred bomb-throwers, crossed twenty miles north of Ishtib, and attempted to pierce the Servian linos. The Servian artillery came into action, and the infantry being heavily reinforced severe fighting followed for several hours. A Servian bayonet charge finally broke the Bulgarian line, and the Bulgarians hurriedly retreated, leaving numerous dead and wounded. There was great excitement in Belgrade. The Government confiscated the newspapers which published specials and headlines, stating that war had begun.
