DOMINION DAIRY SHOW

;the opening day. The, r 'fourth Dominion Dairy Show opened at Hawera yesterday morning, and great numbers of people, including visitors from north and south, viewed the exhibits. All the various sections are well up to the standard set in previous years. Perhaps the most interesting section is thai supplied by the Department ot Agriculture, which includes samples of grain,, fruit, roots and a variety of things interesting to the farmer. During the day the Lyric Orchestra played a number of highly enjoyable selections, and the side shows are in evidence in the usual number and variety. The butter and cheese exhibits occupied a good deal of space arid constituted not the Wast attractive-por-tion of the show. • The home industries, fancy . work and farm and garden produce sections were more than ordinarily well ill 1— ed. STRATFORD EXHIBITS. Stratford exhibitors wcro well to the front in the dog section. In the greyhounds Mr A. A. Cuthbertson secured two seconds and a third with his dog Meteor., The Stratford prize-takers in pointers were: Puppy dogs, A. Stewart 1, J. Butchart 2, T. Kirkwobd 3; novice dogs, J. Butchart 1, T. Kirkwood 2; open dogs, E. Mason 1; open bitches, E. B. Stohr 2.

Cuthbertson first prize in the class for Old English dollie bitch; C. E. Seabright secured two firsts with his bull bitch Wharekoke Ilose, a first in novice bitches and another fi.rst.jn the open dog class. L. Brake was awarded first prize in the open class for skye terrier bitch.

T. Kirkwood won the class for best sporting team, In poultry C. Downey was second in Wyandotte Columbian cock and first in hen of the same sort. He also, secured first 'prize «for barred Plymouth Rock hen, the: bird :also securing a special prize for the best "hem orpullet in the'tehow. He also secured firsts for? The Ridd milking .machine is shown.,, working, Watt and" Lister oil engines supplying the power. An; fife/p^ally' attraov five portion of the exhibit is that devoted to seeds and manures, the Sterling brands being . featured.' There is also a well-displayed show of KowKow, Mr Hignett's well-known animal liniment. This firm has a nice showing of dairy factory machinery pasteurisers, weighing machines and pumps. There is on show a weighing machine, five of which have recently been placed with factories. A. w. reid milker. The A. W. Reid milking machine, for which Mr R. B. Anderson is chief agent, is shown in motion and attracted a good deal of attention. R. McK. MORISON. Mr Morison's exhibit is an attractive one, and includes a great variety of plants suitable for shelter and hedges. E. DIXON AND CO. Messrs E. Dixon and Co. have ■ a big show of Saines and Kuhla pianos, and of the Wertheim -sewing machines, the work of the.' machines also being shown. ■■■>■ . • ;■• .■ .
