THE INDRABARAH.
STILL HOPES OF FLOTATION,
[Per Press'Association.!
Wellington, June 22. The tug Terawhiti returned this ' morning from the steamer Indrabarah. It is reported that though Friday’s . attempt to pull the liner off was abortive, the hope is still held out that the vessel may bo refloated. As the cargo is jettisoned the ship’s tanks are being filled to prevent her working further inshore. Then, when tho next attempt is made to pull her off, the tanks can be pumped out and the draught lightened. Beyond that, those on the Terawhiti are not very communicative. A PESSIMISTIC REPORT. Wellington, June 23. The postmaster at Bulls wired yesterday :—Tho Indrabarah is closer in shore than she has been since May 10, which was the morning she stranded. Most of the lines have given way. No further attempt to refloat the vessel will be possible for a fortnight. BOW FIVE YARDS OFF BEACH AT LOW WATER. Wanganui, June 23. In the opinion of a number of Wanganui people who visited the stranded steamer Indrabarah yesterday, the prospects of refloating the vessel are more remote than ever. The vessel’s bow is only about five yards from tho beach at low water. The beach for a mile or more is strewn with jettisoned cargo, which is being salved. .
Two lines from stern to the anchors seawards are still intact. The port anchor, holding the bow, and a steel hawser connected with the shore, is keeping the vessel in position.
